The fans of the Green Bay Packers experienced two surprises on Tuesday. Especially the dismissal of the long-time Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson causes heated discussions. Joining the cheeseheads, according to media reports tight-end Jimmy Graham.

The Packers without Jordy Nelson – it’s hard to imagine that quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have to relinquish his favorite playing station from next season. But on Tuesday (local time) Green Bay announced the dismissal of the long-time Wide Receiver and Super Bowl winner of 2010.

“We can not thank Jordy enough for all that he has given the Green Bay Packers and our community over the last 10 years,” says new General Manager Brian Gutekunst on the Packers website. “Jordy will always be a member of the Packers family and we look forward to his likely introduction to the Packers Hall of Fame,” Gutekunst continues. “We wish Jordy, his wife Emily and the rest of their family all the best,” concluded the Packers General Manager.

The breakup comes as a surprise and causes heated discussions among the fans. Nelson was ranked 36th out of Green Bay in 2008 in the second draft round. In his ten years with the Packers, he scored 69 touchdowns (second place in the franchise history), catching a total of 550 passes (ranked third) for a total of 7848 yards (rank five). He was instrumental in winning the Super Bowl in the 2010 season (31:25 against the Pittsburgh Steelers) with nine trapped passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Especially the duo Rodgers / Nelson worked smoothly over the years and made for the opposing defensive for fear and terror. Back in December 2016, Rodgers threw his 58th touchdown pass to Nelson, beating the legendary Brett Favre / Antonio Freeman combination and becoming the best attacking duo in Packers history.
Nelson will probably continue his career

Nelson is likely to continue his career – wonders where. The now 32-year-old contracted a cruciate ligament tear at the beginning of the 2016 season, but returned for the 2017 season. After a strong start (six touchdowns in the first five games) but he did not succeed much. It followed only 242 yards, a touchdown he did not catch. However, this could have been due to the fact that Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone on Matchday 6 and failed for a long time.
“Red Zone Monster” Graham is coming

So Nelson is gone – so fans can look forward to Jimmy Graham. The tight end, who was previously under contract with the Seattle Seahawks, gets a three-year contract from the Cheeseheads, according to consistent media reports. Although in a different position, Graham, like Nelson, is a “touchdown machine”. Since 2010, first at the New Orleans Saints, then at the Seattle Seahawks, the 31-year-old, like Nelson, has scored 69 touchdowns. Especially in the “Red Zone” (the last 20 yards before the Goalline) Graham is considered a “monster” – that means, if he gets the egg, it becomes dangerous for the opponent, in most cases a touchdown will pop out. He was searched 24 times in the 2017 season in the “Red Zone”, 15 times he secured the egg and scored ten touchdowns – best score in the Seahawks.

However, he managed with only 520 yards for his ratios, little space gain – he also missed some passes. Unusual for Graham, who, along with Patriots tight-end Rob Gronkowski, 2.01 meters tall and weighing 120 kilograms, is definitely one of the most impressive players in the NFL. Not for nothing he was one of the most sought-after players on the market. Among other things, his ex-team New Orleans with quarterback Drew Brees, with whom Graham almost blind understood between 2010 and 2015, should have been interested in a return action. The race has now but the Packers made that have enough money available after the dismissal of Nelson.
