On Tuesday evening (local time) it was time. The Pittsburgh Steelers announced the (glad) message to put running back Le’Veon Bell under the franchise tag again. But does that like the star from “Steel City” anyway? “Wait” and drink tea, so the approximate, current opinion of the 26-year-olds.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have done it again – and as expected, Le’Veon Bell has franchised the day. The towering running back, which recorded 1291 rushing yards, 655 receiving yards and eleven touchdowns in the past season alone, is now playing under the tag for the second year in a row.

The proud franchise from the US state of Pennsylvania has now confirmed this itself – and underlined the intention behind it with the following words: “We want to keep Le’Veon Bell in the Steelers uniform – and have come a step closer to this endeavor with the franchise day. Bell will receive a $ 14.5 million year-long bid, a significant increase over the 12.12 million in 2017. ”

Sounds promising at first glance from Pittsburgh’s point of view. But there is also tension in it. Because the new day also means: The Steelers and Bell could not negotiate a long-term contract again. “We could not agree on a number,” Bell told “ESPN” recently. “I demand no less than what I’m worth to this team.”

Bell had already stated in January that he would consider suspending the coming season if necessary, in case the Steelers would want to let him play again under the franchise day.

Thus, something is initiated, which could still be a small drama. Because Pittsburgh and Bell have now until 16 July time to agree on a long-term contract. Otherwise threatens the withdrawal of the player. Billing’s recent statements to Andrew Unterberger of “Billboard”: “I keep all the steps in. It can all happen, if I sign, everyone is happy, but if not, it depends on how I feel at the time feel. ” And then it could just be that he suspends Week 1, Week 10 or even the entire season. That would make the responsible and fans of the Steelers rather unhappy.

Because how important Bell is, is beyond question. So far, the versatile Running Back has achieved a whopping 5,336 rushing yards plus an additional 2,660 receiving yards in five NFL years (all in Pittsburgh). Added 42 TDs (35 rushing, seven receiving). On top of that, the RB with 129 scrimmage yards per game is the most successful runner in the last five years.

What is the franchise day?
The franchise day is an opportunity for NFL teams to tie a player from the current roster with expiring contract, at least at short notice. Since 1993, the day along with the Salary Cap (NFL Salary Cap) has been one of the ways to enable smaller teams to hold their stars and thus provide greater balance. The selected player will receive a guaranteed salary corresponding to the median income of the five highest-paid players in the preseason on the position in question – or 120 percent of his previous annual salary; depending on which content is higher. Each team can only use one day per year.
